Turning Time is a melancholy piano ballad about the determination to hold onto a struggling relationship. I wrote this song at a time where I thought I would lose my best friend; it really caused me to question the love and the fears that drive my relationships.
lyrics
Is time running out on this hourglass?
Has it taken me this long to realise our fate is made from grains of sand?
I’m tired of sinking my heels into the ground
But it's the only thing I know how to do
And you ain’t seen the best of me yet, and I ain't seen the best of you
Whatever we're afraid to lose was never perfect
And I've been running, running, running, searching for an answer
But we are not a riddle to be solved, we are not a fortune to be told
And I've been praying, hoping, fighting, trying to get the dust off of these walls
Holding back the years from where they fall
And right there in the midst is where you'll find me
You’ll find me, ohh…
We cannot go back to the way we used to be, do we have to be?
Cause I will never admit that it was just a season
I have reasons for that
Well, you ain't felt the wrath of me yet
Do I bring out the worst in you?
I'm just afraid of losing you
I guess I'm searching
And I've been running, running, running, searching for an answer
But we are not a riddle to be solved, we are not a fortune to be told
And I've been praying, hoping, fighting, trying to get the dust off of these walls
Holding back the years from where they fall
And right there in the midst is where you'll find me
You’ll find me, ohh…
I’ll settle every score, I’ll war the raging sea
I’ll wave my biggest sword to contend for you and me
So we can turn time round again, and push away the end
‘Cause I’ve got fight for days, do you believe me?
I've been running, running, running, well I’m searching for an answer
But we are not a riddle to be solved, we are not a fortune to be told
And I've been praying, hoping, fighting, trying to get the dust off of these walls
Holding back the years from where they fall
And right there in the midst is where you'll find me
You’ll find me, ohh…
In the midst of all our mess is where you'll find me
You’ll find me, ohh…
