I see love in the little things, sweet promises and verbal rings Although lately it feels cold, I don't get knocks upon my door I wish things could be different, a world without all the distance A fight without life's resistance, one where we're all pulled out of indifference 'Cause something unsettles in the waves when I look at you Don't I remind you of the things that hold onto you? Is my love affordable for you? Is my love available to you? Or am I just another drop of shame, in the ocean of your pain, you can find me any day You know all that you need to know before you've heard too much and close the door ‘cause you don't want to hear me cry. You don't know how to dry my eyes Another scream on the news today in a distant land, so very far away And all the noise starts to sound the same. Or maybe, your perception's changed? 'Cause something unravels in the waves when I look at you Should I remind you of the things that hold onto you? Is my love affordable for you? Is my love available to you? Or am I just another drop of shame in the ocean of your pain, you can find me any day Is my love affordable for you? Is my love available to you? Or am I just another folded page in the chapter of your play, you'll come back to me someday. Someday, you'll look in the mirror and see my face Daunting as your secrets touching sunrays And in the midst of all the walls I know that Sometimes, there are pieces sticking out that don't fit neatly, And suddenly you're not so different from me Maybe, you'll see for a second, the way I was made to be seen If only I was available to you Is my love affordable for you? Or am I just another drop of shame, in the ocean of your pain, you can find me any day Is my pain convenient for you? Is my face acceptable to you? Or am I just another folded page in the chapter of your play, you'll come back to me someday Is my love affordable for you? Is my love available to you? Or am I just another folded page, will I neatly fade away? You'll remember me someday You'll remember me someday

Turning Time 06:05
Is time running out on this hourglass? Has it taken me this long to realise our fate is made from grains of sand? I’m tired of sinking my heels into the ground But it's the only thing I know how to do And you ain’t seen the best of me yet, and I ain't seen the best of you Whatever we're afraid to lose was never perfect And I've been running, running, running, searching for an answer But we are not a riddle to be solved, we are not a fortune to be told And I've been praying, hoping, fighting, trying to get the dust off of these walls Holding back the years from where they fall And right there in the midst is where you'll find me You’ll find me, ohh… We cannot go back to the way we used to be, do we have to be? Cause I will never admit that it was just a season I have reasons for that Well, you ain't felt the wrath of me yet Do I bring out the worst in you? I'm just afraid of losing you I guess I'm searching And I've been running, running, running, searching for an answer But we are not a riddle to be solved, we are not a fortune to be told And I've been praying, hoping, fighting, trying to get the dust off of these walls Holding back the years from where they fall And right there in the midst is where you'll find me You’ll find me, ohh… I’ll settle every score, I’ll war the raging sea I’ll wave my biggest sword to contend for you and me So we can turn time round again, and push away the end ‘Cause I’ve got fight for days, do you believe me? I've been running, running, running, well I’m searching for an answer But we are not a riddle to be solved, we are not a fortune to be told And I've been praying, hoping, fighting, trying to get the dust off of these walls Holding back the years from where they fall And right there in the midst is where you'll find me You’ll find me, ohh… In the midst of all our mess is where you'll find me You’ll find me, ohh…

about

The songs from Contending and Contention were written between the years 2017 - 2019, during one of the most challenging and defining periods of my life. These songs became a battleground for me to understand my character, face my flaws, embrace my quirks, and restart the process of what love means to me.

When I decided that my 2019 New Years resolution would be to turn these songs into an album, I had no idea that the struggle in these songs would continue to play out over the next 4 years of their making.

As you delve into the worlds of each of these songs and the entire project, I hope you get to feel the heart behind each one, and that the story of my struggle helps you to overcome yours.
