The subject of Available is very different to every other song I’ve written. It was a poet at an open mic that made me want to reflect on my own feelings about social injustice; however, I love how the song also tells a wider story about the difficulties of reflecting on our own shortcomings.
lyrics
I see love in the little things, sweet promises and verbal rings
Although lately it feels cold, I don't get knocks upon my door
I wish things could be different, a world without all the distance
A fight without life's resistance, one where we're all pulled out of indifference
'Cause something unsettles in the waves when I look at you
Don't I remind you of the things that hold onto you?
Is my love affordable for you? Is my love available to you?
Or am I just another drop of shame, in the ocean of your pain, you can find me any day
You know all that you need to know before you've heard too much and close the door
‘cause you don't want to hear me cry. You don't know how to dry my eyes
Another scream on the news today in a distant land, so very far away
And all the noise starts to sound the same. Or maybe, your perception's changed?
'Cause something unravels in the waves when I look at you
Should I remind you of the things that hold onto you?
Is my love affordable for you? Is my love available to you?
Or am I just another drop of shame in the ocean of your pain, you can find me any day
Is my love affordable for you? Is my love available to you?
Or am I just another folded page in the chapter of your play, you'll come back to me someday.
Someday, you'll look in the mirror and see my face
Daunting as your secrets touching sunrays
And in the midst of all the walls I know that
Sometimes, there are pieces sticking out that don't fit neatly,
And suddenly you're not so different from me
Maybe, you'll see for a second, the way I was made to be seen
If only I was available to you
Is my love affordable for you?
Or am I just another drop of shame, in the ocean of your pain, you can find me any day
Is my pain convenient for you? Is my face acceptable to you?
Or am I just another folded page in the chapter of your play, you'll come back to me someday
Is my love affordable for you? Is my love available to you?
Or am I just another folded page, will I neatly fade away?
You'll remember me someday
You'll remember me someday
